To support us in achieving our ambitious growth objectives, we are seeking a highly motivated Envi-ronment, Social & Governance (ESG) Officer who can support us on our journey to become a more responsible and sustainable business. While Svante is early in its growth stage, this is an excellent opportunity for the right person to come in on the ground floor to ensure we optimize our strategies and tactics in making a real difference on the environment, the society, the employees for Svante by developing an ESG program aligned with our business goals.
Reporting to Enterprise Quality, you will support the successful development, implementation and evolution of Svante's ESG framework and a wide range of sustainability-related initiatives. This role combines elements of reporting (data collection, process implementation, validation), strategy, team collaboration and engagement of working groups to successfully integrate the ESG strategy within the company.
Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
- Work with Enterprise Quality to map out a strategy to drive the organization's management and development of the ESG program, while establishing a clear and prioritized ESG plan.
- Create and maintain environmental and sustainability policies, procedures, checklists and other related program content in support of our ESG program implementation.
- Conduct planning, research and communicate global ESG legislation, regulations, trends and developments to determine impacts and opportunities and translate them into actionable improvements across the company.
- Provide technical expertise on key issues related to environmental and social impact assessment and on sustainability risks taking into consideration best industry practices and standards.
- Serve as the technical expert for the development of tools, products and services building on Life Cycle Analysis (LCA).
- Conduct environmental reviews of operating activities and facilitate to identify potential environmental impacts and required mitigation methods; follow up to observe if approved work is carried out in accordance with all pertinent environmental legislation/regulations and Svante's processes and best practices.
- Interpret and anticipate internal and external business challenges and/or regulatory issues and recommend process, product/service improvements.
- Manage the ESG Reporting process, including collection of performance indicators from various departments and proactively identify action plans required to meet ESG requirements.
- Develop and maintain an ESG dashboard to track and report progress against ESG goals and key metrics.
- Prepare clear and compelling reports, presentations of analyses and recommendations.
- Develop toolkits that educate employees on climate risk, energy and waste related initiatives and support different departments, vendors/suppliers and stakeholders in achieving ESG goals.
- Support management in driving the education, communication, training of the ESG program across the company including sub-contractors and supply chains, where relevant.
Key Qualifications:
- Minimum 8 years relevant experience in ESG program implementation and maintenance.
- Strong experience in Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) modeling, standards and guidelines or similar process engineering background.
- Demonstrated experience in development and management of ESG practices business management system and producing ESG and integrated reports.
- Solid understanding of provincial and international ESG and climate reporting frameworks and benchmarking tools.
- Sound knowledge of ISO 14001 and ESG principles, concepts, practices, and techniques.
- Certification and/or professional licensing is an asset.
- Exceptional interpersonal communication skills (verbal, presentation, written) and ability to work cooperatively with different business groups, operations staff, and all other stakeholders.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Strong desire to learn all areas of the business, advocacy and support Lean principles and sincere, passionate belief in Svante's values and business mission.
- Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, science and/or equivalent work experience in related field.
