Orbital Research was founded in Burnaby, Canada, in 2003. Our team has extensive experience engineering and customizing high end, high performance frequency converters and satellite communications components for professional use. Orbital Research products - LNBs, BDCs, oscillators and more - perform reliably anywhere, even in extreme temperatures and conditions.
We provide standard and custom SATCOM equipment to customers in military, aeronautical, earth observation, satellite news gathering (SNG), SATCOM-on-the-move (SOTM) and other satellite industries. And because our frequency converters and components are professionally engineered, hand-tuned and individually tested, we can guarantee high performance.
We currently have an opening for an experienced SATELLITE SYSTEMS ENGINEER at our Burnaby, BC location. In this full-time, on-site position, you will be part of the Engineering team responsible for our frequency converter products used in satellite communications systems.
Applicants must be eligible for registration with EGBC and must pass a government security screening and be required to meet eligibility requirements for access to controlled goods requiring a security clearance.
Job Summary:
- Create and maintain project artifacts including, but not limited to, charters, schedules, scopes, work breakdown structures, budgets, risk registers, requirements, and specifications.
- Track, maintain, report on and re-baseline schedules, budgets, and scopes.
- Participate in new product development and custom design projects.
- Prepare test plans and procedures for NPI, custom designs and production support.
- Test and troubleshoot prototype and production assemblies and sub-assemblies.
- Support the construction and development of Automatic Test Equipment workstations.
- Support Sales in developing RFPs and Quotes.
- Support Production as a technical resource.
MANDATORY SKILLS
- Proficiency in project management practices and techniques;
- Proficiency in project management tools for scheduling, budgeting, scope, and quality tracking;
- Demonstrated skills in technical documentation;
- Experience in structured development such as automotive, aerospace, medical products;
- Knowledge of electronics (RF/microwave) design and test practices;
- Knowledge of CAD software such as Altium, SolidWorks or equivalent;
- Knowledge of RF/microwave instruments such as a spectrum analyzer and network analyzer and test instruments such as oscilloscope, signal generator, data logger;
- Knowledge of Python, C, C#, or similar programming/scripting languages;
- Networking protocol such as TCP/IP, TLS, SNMP;
- DSP or SDR design experience;
- Rapid prototyping tools such as Arduino, RaspPi or equivalent;
- Light machining such as milling, cutting, lathing, drilling, and grinding.
- Must have P. Eng designation and Masters degree.

Salary Range:
- $80,000 - $120,000 CAD per year
