Your Role:
Reporting to the Payroll Supervisor, as the Payroll Assistant, you are responsible for collaborating with the rest of the payroll team to administer the day-to-day operational financial activities at Global Relay as it relates to Canadian, US, and UK payroll and benefits processing and maintenance.
Your Job:
- Help with the processing of full-cycle payroll for 1,000+ Canadian, US, and UK employees.
- Perform reconciliation and analysis tasks for Canadian, US, and UK employee benefit programs for employee withholding, tax and financial reporting purposes
- Work with the rest of the payroll team to reconcile monthly invoices and balance statements for other employee programs for Canadian, US, and UK employees for payroll purposes
- Prepare Records of Employment for employee departures and terminations
- Prepare incentive payout calculations for input into the payroll system for payroll processing
- Input of company bonuses, employee expense reimbursements, and other special payments for payroll processing
- Assist in the preparation of annual year end payroll documentation, including: Canadian T4s, US W2s, and UK P11Ds and P60s
- Prepare payroll journal entries and reconciliations on a semi-monthly, quarterly, and annual basis
- Ensure interpretation of requirements imposed through legislation and company policies are implemented and adhered to appropriately
- Act as a resource and resolve payroll inquiries from employees and managers
- Maintain confidentiality of all payroll information and documents at all times
- Understand current payroll legislation and requirements and keep informed of any pending changes in Canada, US (federal and state), and the UK
- Ensure government reporting and remittance requirements are met
- Research of applicable tax treatment of benefits in Canada, US (federal and state), and the UK
- Take part in the creation, implementation, and maintenance of the operating procedures for all payroll processes, alongside the Human Resources team
- Continuously strive to implement best practices, looking for areas of streamlining and automation wherever possible
About You:
- Minimum 1-2 years of working in an finance or accounting team, demonstrating an interest in learning payroll
- A diploma or degree in business administration or related field, with some Accounting courses; PCP designation, or intention to pursue PCP preferred but not mandatory
- Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Word, Outlook, etc
- Impeccable accuracy with numbers and high attention to detail
- Ability to exercise tact and discretion and to be entrusted with confidential information
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, prioritize and time-manage
- Excellent telephone etiquette and ability to write clear, concise and formal business communications
- Ability to work independently as well as within a team with minimal supervision
- Ability to work in a fast paced team environment
- Strong work ethic and integrity
- Prior knowledge in US and UK payroll is not mandatory, but must be open to learning about rules and regulations of those jurisdictions
- Familiarity with payroll systems (including Payworks and iSolved) is an asset
The Payroll Assistant role may require overtime when there are impending deadlines.
