General Fusion is transforming how the world is energized by developing the first commercially-viable fusion power plant. Fusion will deliver clean, safe and on-demand power at industrial scale, providing a powerful complement to renewables and a pathway to a zero-emission grid.
Combining new technologies, proven industrial processes, and advances in fundamental fusion science, General Fusion aims to be the first in the world to develop commercial fusion power. Key performance requirements have been demonstrated at the system level, setting the stage for building a pre-commercial fusion power prototype.
Position Overview:
As a member of the Plasma Injection team, the Plasma Injector Operator will help ensure we are getting the best results out of our Plasma Injector Experiments in accordance with the goals for risk reduction projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Schedule Machine operation and experimental plan Schedule Machine maintenance and upgrades Schedule diagnostic Maintenance Upgrades. Crosstrain operators on different machines Ensure updated safety and operational procedures are in place Ensure a clear test plan is in place for operators running experiments on each machine Work with the machine operators to validate data integrity for each experiment as the test plan is being executed Work with physicists and data analysts to do sanity check on initial results of each experiment to look for systematic errors in the data or the need for modifications to test the plan to ensure the test is achieving the purpose of experiment. Relevant Skills and Experience:
Required:
Good working knowledge of the operation of all plasma injectors including diagnostics and controls. Understanding of the basic plasma physics in our injectors to be able to work with the physicists to interpret results. Understanding of the operational principals of the diagnostic to be able to sanity check the data being generated by the experiments. Able to develop controlled test plans that achieve the experimental goals. The work involved in this project combines a wide range of skill sets, and each team member will need to become familiar with the full scope of the plasma development and understand how their work relates to the whole.
