Position Overview: General Fusion is currently hiring for a Senior or Lead Mechanical Engineer. Reporting to the Director, Diagnostics and Controls, the Lead mechanical engineer will work directly within Diagnostic and control team. The successful candidate to this role will leverage personal, internal and external expertise effectively to solve the complex design challenges of these key systems. Value is defined by design success. ( I.e. the quality and reliability of equipment in service)
Key Responsibilities:
- Work with physicists, electrical and other mechanical engineers to design physic implementation of diagnostic hardware
- Adaptation to changing design interfaces
- Lead on mechanical design of a complex Integrated system with multiple stakeholders and difficult design requirements including:
-Shock Loading
-Interaction with High Voltage pulsed power electrical components and Magnetic fields
- Accommodation of instrumentation (optical, electrical signal transfer/ vision systems)
-High vacuum

Relevant Education, Skills and Experience
Education:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Physics, or other relevant fields.
Experience:
Required:
- At least 8-10 years of Mechanical Design and R&D experience of complex devices ( ex. subsea, down hole oil and gas, aerospace, high power electrical, etc.)
- Design with Advanced Materials
- Proven sub-contractor management
- Experience of developing new solutions to technical problems
- Sub-contractor management
- Design in Complex systems.
- Experience with High voltage/pulsed power
- Materials engineering
- Team leadership
- Dynamic mechanical stress/strain analysis (e.g. ansys or similar)
Preferred:
- Strong experience with R&D and Mechanical Design.
- Collaboration with engineering consultant and vendors
