General Fusion is transforming how the world is energized by developing the first commercially-viable fusion power plant. Fusion will deliver clean, safe, and on-demand power at industrial scale, providing a powerful complement to renewables and a pathway to a zero-emissions grid.
Combining new technologies, proven industrial processes, and advances in fundamental fusion science, General Fusion aims to be the first in the world to develop commercial fusion power. Key performance requirements have been demonstrated at the system level, setting the stage for building a pre-commercial fusion power prototype.
Position Overview:
The Project Manager will support the engineering team in the organization and execution of the design, procurement, and commissioning of key test hardware at General Fusion. The project manager will establish key project management work products from pre-conceptual design and engineering through procurement, fabrication, and construction. In addition, the successful candidate will leverage his/her risk management expertise in assessing and managing risk across all aspects of the project, carefully monitoring the performance and execution. Key Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the Engineering, Operations and Research and Development team to implement develop project management work products (e.g., WBS, schedules, risk, and opportunity database, etc.) that is capable of tracking cost and schedule for the development of critical test hardware needed to advance fusion technology.
- Build and maintain a true partnership with project partners to integrate a consistent and effective approach to project execution, issue resolution and productivity.
- Challenge status quo approach to project execution and drive effective best-in-class project execution and processes to support resolution of complex project issues.
- Manage risk assessments for all functions including engineering, procurement, fabrication, and construction, while developing and maintaining a risk register of execution challenges and mitigations, and communicate lessons learned.
- Identify and monitor project risk elements and provide risk mitigation strategies.
- Promote a culture of open reporting, highlighting each team's key execution challenges and needed support.
- Ensure consistent achievement and reporting of safety, quality, schedule, and cost objectives.
- Ensure that all project documentation is issued on time, in the appropriate format, and consistent with quality standards.
Requirements:
Required:
- A minimum of five years' experience running projects that have a high degree of complexity and multiple interfaces, ideally involving the management of engineering, fabrication, and/or construction associated with the delivery of products or services in complex engineering programs, such as those found in the aerospace, EPC, and/or large-scale power.
- Strong influencing and relationship building skills.
- Demonstrated project management skills with experience across multiple areas to include a broad range of functions (e.g., engineering, procurement, construction, project controls, risk, quality, safety, etc.)
- Strong project risk experience as it pertains to de-risking technology and project execution with complex, high end technology projects.
- Knowledge of project execution risks and financial processes.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to develop and present information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders including presenting project progress, accomplishments, and project scope deviations to executive management.
- Demonstrated ability to lead in a rapidly changing, unstructured environment and deliver results.
- Proven track record demonstrating ownership and accountability, strong judgment and decision-making skills, and the ability to influence and inspire a team with a passion for the role.
- Agile with the ability to quickly adapt and shift priorities and direction in a rapidly changing environment.
- While there is some flexibility of remote work, the candidate will be required to spend a majority of their work week in the office, located in Burnaby, BC.
Education:
Preferred:
- B.S. degree in technical field a plus
- PMI or related certification a plus.
