Ballard has an immediate opportunity for an Electrical Technologist to join its Operations Team in Burnaby, BC. The successful candidate will apply their strong technical skills to the develop fuel cell and fuel cell component testing equipment for Ballard's state-of-the-art test lab. Working closely with a team of technicians, technologists and engineers in our fast-paced environment, the candidate will advance and maintain Ballard's broad line of fuel cell testing equipment. Applications supported will include motive power applications for materials handling, power modules for zero emissions transit busses and engineering services for clients including world-leading automotive OEMs developing zero emissions passenger vehicles. The successful candidate will work well with senior engineering staff, is capable of independent work and will contribute to the development of Ballard's fuel cell system products.
Responsibilities:
- Building electrical systems, such as electrical control panels, instrumentation and control wiring and wire harnesses
- Assisting in the verification of electrical systems
- Troubleshooting and failure analysis of electrical components and systems
- Assisting in preparation of technical documents, including test procedures, test reports, design specifications, and component/system design requirements
- Selecting and sourcing electrical components
Desired qualifications, skills and experience:
- Must have a Diploma in Electrical or Electronics Engineering Technology and/or 2- or 3-year's electrical apprentice, working towards completing Red Seal Electrical Certification
- Must have at least 2 - 6 years' experience in a relevant industry
- Must have excellent computer skills
- Must have excellent skills and experience with maintenance and troubleshooting of electrical and electronic systems
- Experience analyzing analog & digital circuits
- Knowledge of electrical/electronic components and their characteristics, applications and limitations
- Ability to read Process & Instrumentation Diagrams
- Troubleshooting skills with DMM
- Strong electrical prototyping skills with tools such as: wire strippers, wire and lug crimpers, connector insertion and extraction tools and soldering systems
- Good mechanical prototyping skills with tools such as: drills, grinders, saws and wrenches
- Configuring/programming electrical devices such as variable speed motor drivers and distributed I/O systems and Fieldbus.
- Knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code and/or National Electrical Code
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills and good listening skills
- Ability to work in a multi-functional team environment
Additional Consideration: - Experience designing, drawing and analyzing low voltage electrical circuits
- Experience with PLCs and creation of I/O drawings
- Experience with AutoCAD or similar drafting software
- Experience with instrumentation including pressure, temperature and flow measurement devices
- Experience / proficiency in automation and machine communication
