SFU students Bradley Schellenberg and Antonia Kowalewski are recipients of 2018 Schulich scholarships.
Burnaby, BC, September 25, 2018--(T-Net)--New students Antonia Kowalewski and Bradley Schellenberg are Simon Fraser University's recipients of Schulich Leader Scholarships.
The awards annually recognize high school graduates with outstanding academic achievements who are enrolling in a science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) undergraduate program.
Bradley Schellenberg received the $100,000 Schulich Leader Scholarship. A graduate of Seaquam Secondary in North Delta, Schellenberg is studying in SFU's engineering science program this fall.
"The Schulich Leader Scholarship—being centered on leadership in STEM disciplines—was achievable through Seaquam's Engineering Robotics program, to which I dedicated thousands of hours over the past five years," says Schellenberg.
"As the years of my undergraduate studies progress, I hope to become involved with other engineers who pursue their own ideas and projects outside of class requirements."
Outside of school, Schellenberg is an avid outdoors explorer and enjoys rock and alpine climbing. "I expect to be spending several evenings at the SFU climbing wall," he says.
Antonia Kowalewski received the $80,000 Schulich Leader Scholarship. A graduate of Reynolds Secondary School in Victoria, she is studying biological physics at SFU.
"I am incredibly honoured and grateful to have won the Schulich Leader Scholarship," says Kowalewski."Not only does this scholarship allow me to focus on my studies without financial burden, but it also gives me new confidence to pursue my passions, both academic and extracurricular."
After completing an undergraduate degree, Kowalewski plans to enter graduate school in biophysics or a related field.
